What is Cataract Removal?

A cataract develops when the crystalline lens or the natural lens of the eye has deteriorated in transparency. This clouded lens which causes deterioration in vision for the patient is removed in the surgery and replaced with a synthetic lens in order to restore the clarity. The operation is performed by an ophthalmologist and is very successful.

The Procedure

It is crucial that a preoperative evaluation or consultation is done to identify if the patient has fulfilled certain requirements for the procedure and to determine the true cause of the sight deterioration. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic with little or no discomfort to the patient. The operation is simple, having the natural lens of the eye replaced with a synthetic lens known as an intraocular lens implant.

Should I do it?

Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures in the world and is very successful in restoring vision back to normal. Left unattended your vision will deteriorate over time, but with this procedure it can be restored back to normal after surgery.
