What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes fat from many different areas on the human body. It is a procedure that is performed to re-contour and sculpt the body to attain pleasing results. In general the areas most affected are the thighs, buttocks and the stomach. However several other areas can also be affected and require liposuction. Other common terms for this procedure are lipoplasty, liposculpture or suction lipectomy.

The Procedure

This procedure is generally performed by using a cannula which is a small stainless steel tube. This tube is inserted through the hypodermic fat layer of the skin through small incisions, with general anaesthetic. The tube is connected to a suction device that removes the fat as it is loosened. This procedure can only be carried out after several factors are examined and discussed with your doctor.

Should I do it?

If you experience problems with fatty deposits on certain areas of your body, then you should consider liposuction.  People who need a tummy tuck or have excess fats around their waist are likely candidates for this procedure. You need to have an average body weight and be in good health before you undergo this type of procedure. If you are interested in this surgery then speak to your doctor and he or she will be able to guide you on your way.
