What is Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty surgery is nasal reconstructive surgery most commonly known as a nose job. The shape of a person’s nose is largely based on their gene pool and is therefore hereditary.  Many people who are unhappy with the size, the shape and the contours of their nose undergo rhinoplasty surgery. Rhinoplasty surgery is successful in altering bumps and noseflaps. It can furthermore be carried out to treat unusual breathing and nasal congestion as well as reconstruction of damaged or broken noses from sport injuries or accidents.

The Procedure

This procedure is performed under general anaesthetic. Your doctor will advise you on the best procedure to suit your needs. Complete facial growth is necessary before one can undergo nasal surgery. Rhinoplasty can be performed by means of a closed procedure, which involves incisions inside the nose. It can also be performed by an open procedure, where an incision is made across the columella, which is the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. It can take up to a year to see the full effect of the surgery, but results will last forever.

Should I do it?

If you are not pleased with the shape of your nose, have abnormal contours, bumps or dents or suffer from various nasal problems, then consider rhinoplasty. If your nose makes you feel conscious about the way you look or even if you just feel like a makeover, this may be an effective way to become a new you!
